the anti cultivated look.... i guess its a mix between latch hook and traditional.

i stopped caring about dread lock extensions after one day i picked up my husband from cleveland in march and he said it looked really nice, fresh. so i stopped hiding my face.

think i took these in march. my hair looks denser at this point in july  and the weight is making them drop.  hang in there if you are worried about how thin your hair is in the beginning. if you have thin or soft hair. it took about 6 months or longer to get past that. i also abandoned using any type of hook or tool. The nappylock tool helped me get the hang of it. I had it in all sizes. I am planning on creating a video to explain how to do it either way--- with a NL tool or with your hands.. I needed all the sizes because the locks in front seem micro and i have redone the back because it was too soft to hold such small locks and made those large. I find myself tightening the front (the small small ones) much more often that the larger ones in the middle and very back.

abandoning my loctician cured my that way i can avoid the bald look.... the least fav thing about sisterlocks. i have combined some of them but not too many...

TO HAND TIGHTEN: put your finger through the new growth.and pull the end of the lock back through it.. kind like you were crocheting or making bracelets with the colorful thread.

if you are confident in yourself and arent afraid of "messing up your hair" i highly suggest this method. For one, youll have a completely unique set of locks that no one else will have. two you can tighten your hair while watching tv every few days in your idle time.  three you can avoid that baldy scalpy look because you arent going to tighten EVERY single one at once. Four its free. Five its easier to teach and youll get good karma for passing on the knowledge and freeing your friends and loved ones who dont love their own hair.

i tighten my hair with my hands

My hair is radically different from the October 2011 post. I am sorry I have failed to update this because   I see I have had 367 page views. That means someone is finding and viewing my page and perhaps helped by this info.

That was the last month that I had my hair tightened. I no longer consider myself as someone what sisterlocks because I have strayed from the grid pattern and now do my hair myself.

My hair is much more volumuous and does not look curly like it did. Its still curly, but each lock seems to have doubled (or more or less) in size.  The "Freed Ends Characteristic" in sisterlocks has left the bottoms a little fuller- and now i look like i had more hair than before.
At this point-- I definitely prefer this.. i can see how its going to look like i have a lot more hair at the 5 year point then it looked like i had at the 5 year point (2007) with my traditional locks. My new Five year Point will be 2016.

I also promised myself... to cutting, ripping, undoing the ends, or any of that stuff like i did with my traditional locks.

Four Months Locked Today

i have about 3/4 to an inch of hair that needs tightened.  In just 6 weeks.. I think I will be really excited to see what my 6th month Lock-a-Versary will bring.  Can definitely tell it is locking.. It grew a lot after having those extensions in. Get my Retightening here soon in a few days..
Here is a photo of me freshly after washing and then blow drying it completely dry as I could.
Four Months tpday (October 1st) WOO HOO!

dreadlocks extensions experiement

I used two types of braiding hair:
kinky dread hair -- which comes in a blue package and runs $5.45 a package and comes in long ropes of coarse hair.

The second type of hair- "Marley Braid" it is  is "nappy hair" for women who have softer hair.. it says on the package that it is easier to work with and still gives you a locked or twisted appearance.

initially i just braided in hair by taking chunks of sisterlocks (between 9-20 at a time) and leaving some loose in general-- and braiding the hair into it. This was practice braiding. But then I realized the pattern of my hair was making me look like i had very "scalpy" sections..to cover this up, i weaved other pieces of the kinkier hair through the base and double strand twisted it.

I left the front of my hair out and sisterlocked.. similar to what my hair looked like before I cut it all off. However, this look would definitely look better on someone whose hair is kinkier and fuller. (as usual)
This is what it looks like but nothing is up close

you must wear it in a pony tail because the braids and twists are uneven but it still looks fun and exotic

The problem with sisterlocks is there is no 3 inch "under-afro" underneath it from lack of twisting. Sisterlocks are interlocked all the way to the base. Right now i only have 1/4 of an inch of growth. my 3rd re-tigh isnt until october 4th..so i imagine it getting better closer to period of time where you are due for one...  so basically, what i am trying to say is that thinner hair is more apparent. I will compare this with a picture of my old set of locks

still prefer my old set of locks (9/6/2011)
I feel thinner and sexier with a longer look now.. so its cool to experiment with both while my sisterlocks grow out. Next blog is of me after redoing several of the locks into smaller, more even spacing and added beads and colors.

first major re-tigh 8/9

2 1/3 months. Now I feel nearly completely over my old set of locks and am enjoying the weightlessness feeling of the new dreads  that i know wont last forever
